FOOD ALLERGY TESTING WIMBLEDON

Our Food Allergy Testing Is Done In Association With Wimbledon Clinic Natural Medicine

The Food print lab
Do You Get Bloating, Rumbling Or Tummy Aches?

If the answer is yes, you have experienced the most apparent symptoms of food intolerance. The problem is how to know, precisely, which foods did the deed. The Wimbledon Clinic now does blood testing for each meal you eat.

Do You Get Tired, More Than Normal?

If the answer is yes, you may be experiencing this lethargy due to the food intolerance sapping energy to deal with the inflammation. Or it's also possible the inflammation causes some malabsorption of vital vitamins and minerals. While our foodprint blood test won't flag up which vitamins you may be under absorbed it may flag up the cause.

Can a Nutritionist Help?

A traditional nutritionist method is FOD MAPPING diet, which helps reduces fermentation from yeast-type bacteria in the gut.

However, FODMAP diets are time-consuming and don't always get to the route of the issue. FODMAPPING also stops probiotic foods which are needed for good gut health.

You may feel better in the short term, but it isn't advisable for the long run as it may expose the gut to other conditions. An intolerance test lets you know how your blood behaves towards the individual ingredients, and there is no better objective test for food intolerance.

How Does A Blood Test Show Allergy To Foods?

Analysing individual foods and reporting on the level of (IGg) antibody reaction by the blood.

Private Medical Insurance

We take insurance, yes but it's unlikely that private insurance will pay for IgG testing of foods. while it's considered beneficial to nutrition planning & reducing inflammatory cascade it is typically seen as "not a medical need".

NOTE: The other food test, IgE food allergy testing is for anaphylaxis (nut dairy, shellfish allergy that causes the throat to swell etc.). IgE can be covered by private medical aid.
Let us know if you want a separate quote about IgE testing, as it requires a different lab protocol.

Are You Testing For Intolerance Or Allergy?

There are various motives why a portion of food can create problems, among them a classic IgE food allergy (type I) and a delayed IgG food allergy (type III), the latter is also referred to as food intolerance.

Both are allergies but the primary (type I) has larger symptoms, with a medical system that focuses on symptoms rather than cause type III is often downplayed i.e the term 'food intolerance' is used by many GP's.

What both allergies have in common is that the immune system's antibodies are involved, albeit different types.

Due to the different antibodies, or Immunoglobulins (Ig), been located in distinctive regions, there are some differences in the way the immune system responds responses.

  • IgE Food Allergy (type I)

What Are The Differences Between IGG vs IGE
  • Differences

Production of IgE antibodies; Release of histamine-mediated by IgE antibodies

  • Differences

E.g. itching, red skin, anaphylaxis, swelling of the mucous membranes (the 'wet surfaces' i.e lips, inside of cheeks, throat/ tongue and eyes).

  • Differences

Immediate reaction within a minutes, but a reaction may build-up over an hour. subtle reactions, lip swelling, may not have a noticeable effect until after 30 mins

  • IgG Food Allergy (type III)

What Are The Differences Between IGG vs IGE
  • Differences

Production of IgG antibodies; Release of inflammatory mediators caused by binding of IgG antibodies

  • Differences

Chronic inflammatory ailments, e.g. constipation, diarrhoea, eczema/ rashes, flatulence, inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s), IBS, migraines, obesity

  • Differences

After 1 hour to three days (Can be less if the stomach is empty or foods are liquefied i.e sauces and soups)

Food Allergy Testing Children & Babies

Approximately 40% of our food panel tests are on toddlers and children. Parents are normally seeking informative detail on behaviour triggers, rashes, unexplained bloating and in teens inability to shift weight.

There are few questions asked by parents before the tests, we have tried to detail a few before you bring your little one into the practice.

Food Allergy Blood testing In Babies/ Children FAQ's:

  • How Is Blood Taken On babies?

IgG testing is a live blood test; this means the blood does not need to be centrifuged and will be done via a pinprick. While we don't need much blood, children who are dehydrated can take some time to get enough blood to get to the lab. Depending on child this may be done on thumb or big toe.

  • Can My Partner Come?

Your partner/ child's father or mother is more than welcome, Regarding COVID pandemic as your the same household (if your households are different please let us know) this is still the case. But least possible human traffic in the clinic is preferable.

Please note multiple people in the room can increase a stress event in kids, particularly when brothers and sisters are crammed into a treatment room and focusing on the child's reaction.

The Wimbledon clinic is more sparse than usual, so they could wait outside the room with a door open, in reception or in-room - it's really up to you how your child is best calmed.

  • Preparation For A Childs Test

We usually recommend they are given a drink of something they love to slurp down (natural juice or milk) to ensure they are hydrated 5 mins before the test.
